          Silesian Museum - the oldest and third largest museum in the Czech Republic, founded in 1814 but the historical exposition building was build in 1895, the museum also cares for other objects, such as the World War II Memorial in Hrabyně, the Czechoslovak Fortification Complex, the Petr Bezruč Memorial and the Nový Dvůr Arboretum
          Silesian Theatre - built in 1805, in 1948 the facade was changed from Neo-Renaissance style to Social Realism, in 1957 and administration building was built in the back, the building was changed back into Neo-Renaissance style in 1995
          Our Lady of the Assumption Co-Cathedral - a 14th century Silesian Gothic church with three naves and two towers, it is known for its characteristic red brick and a supporting pillar
          Breda Department Store - used to be the biggest department store in the Czechoslovak Republic, built in 1928 by the company Breda & Weinstein and designed by architect Leopold Bauer, in the Communist era it was known as Průkopník and Prior, since 2012 it is closed because of its dilapidated state
          Hláska Tower - the city lookout clocktower and city hall, the first wooden lookout from the 14th century served for trading and as the seat of the city council and court, it was destroyed by a storm, the new tower was finished in 1618, in 1971 a fountain was built in front of it that became the Sun in the model of the Solar System, it is commonly called Koule

The United States of America in Pictures


New York City - the most populous city in the US and one of the largest metropolitan areas in the world, it is divided into Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx and Staten Island, originally a Dutch colony founded in 1624, it is one of the most important megacities in the world with many landmarks, for example the Chrysler Building, Brooklyn Bridge, St Patrick's Cathedral and Times Square
          Statue of Liberty - a huge neoclassical sculpture on Liberty Island in New York Harbor, it is made of copper, it was a gift from France, sculpted by Frederic Auguste Bartholdi and build by Gustave Eiffel
          Empire State Building - a 102-story Art Deco skyscaper in Midtown Manhattan, it was completed in 1931 and was the worlds tallest building until 1970, it is 443,4m tall including the antenna

Washington DC - the capital city of the US, a federeal district under the exclusive jurisdiction of the Congress, founded in 1791 and planned by Pierre Charles L'Enfand, most of its sights are located at the National Mall, for example Jefferson Memorial, Lincoln Memorial, the Smithsonian Institution Building, the Library of Congress, the National Archives Building and the World War II Memorial
          White House - the official residence of the President since 1800, a neoclassical building with two added wings, the Oval Office is located in the West Wing
          Congress - the bicameral legislature of the US, it consists of two chambers, the House of Representatives and the Senate, it is located at the Capitol Building on Capitol Hill, a huge neoclassical building with a massive dome

San Francisco - a West Coast city founded by Spanish colonists in 1776, the California Gold Rush brought many people to California and it became an important metropolis, an important centre of culture known for liberalism, steep hills, cable cars, earthquakes and fog, some famous sights include Lombard Street, Chinatown, the Transamerica Pyramid and the Embarcadero
          Alcatraz - Alcatraz Island is located in San Francisco Bay, there is a lighthouse and a military fortification, the island is most famous for the maximum security federal prison operated from 1934 to 1963, it is said that no one ever escaped from there
          Golden Gate Bridge - a suspension bridge that is 2,7km long and 227,4m high, opened in 1937, it is most famous for its International Orange color

Los Angeles - the most populous city in California, it is hknown mainly for its entertainment industry, it is surrounded by mountains and deserts, the land was claimed by the Spaniss in 1542 and the city founded in 1781, the discovery of oil brought rapid growth and further expanded thanks to the Hollywood film studios, some famous places include Beverly Hills, Hollywood Boulevard and Venice Beach, the Griffith Observatory is a popular tourist attraction
          Hollywood - neighbourhoos in Los Angeles, a notable home of the film industry, the Academy Awards (the Oscars) are held at the Dolby Theater, the Hollywood Sign is situated on Mount Lee in the Hollywood Hills sice 1923
          Walk of Fame - an 18 blocks long sidewalk mainly on Hollywood Bouleward with more than 2600 pink stars, the pavement was created in 1958

          Niagara Falls - a group of three waterfalls on the River Niagara on the border of Canada and the US, the largest and most famous are the Horseshoe Falls, the other two are American falls and Bridal Veil Falls
          Yellowstone - a National Park located mainly in Wyoming, it is most famous for the Old Faithful geyser, the Grand Prismatic Spring and Mammoth Hot Springs

          Prague Castle - a castle complex from the 9th century, the official office of the President, the largest ancient castle complex in the world
          Saint Vitus Cathedral (Metropolitan Cathedral of Saints Vitus, Wenceslaus and Adalbert) - a Roman Catholic church and the seat of the Archbishop, a prominent Gothic landmark located within Prague Castle, the crown jewels are located in Saint Wenceslaus Chapel, locked by seven locks in the Crown Chamber
          Charles Bridge - a historic bridge that replaced Judith Bridge after a flood, costruction started in 1357, it was renamed in honor of Charles IV, it is 516m long and has three towers, two Lesser Quarter (Malostranské) Towers and one Old Town (Staroměstská) Tower
          Old Town Square - a historic square with many sights, 27 crosses mark the pavement in honor of leaders executed in 1621, the Church of Saint Nicholas is a late-Gothic and Baroque church and the Church of Mother of God before Týn is a Gothic church and a dominant feature, the Jan Hus Memorial honors the Hussite warriors
          Old Town Hall - a 14th century town hall, most famous for the Prague Astronomical Clock installed in 1410, making it the third-oldest in the world and the oldest clock still operating
          National Theatre - a national monument of history and art and an important cultural institution, a Neo-Ranaissance building with decorations inspired by the Slavonic mythology, opened in 1881 but a fire destroyed the building only after 12 performances, reopened in 1883
          Vyšehrad - a historic fort from the 10th century, the Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul is a neo-Gothic church located within the fortress
          Vyšehrad Cemetery - commonly called Slavín (name of one of the tombs), a 19th century graveyard for famous people
          National Museum - founded in 1818 by Kašpar Maria Šternberg, located above Václavské náměstí, holds over 14 million items, the main building has been renovated in 2019, Pomník Jana Palacha is located in the pavement in front of the museum
          Petřín Hill - a hill in the centre of Prague covered with parks, the Lookout Tower is a steel-framework 63,5m tall built in 1891 to resemble the Eiffel Tower
          Wenceslas Square - a historical square famous for events such as demonstrations, celebrations and public gatherings, the statue of Saint Wenceslas, Duke of Bohemia was sculpted by Josef Václav Myslbek
          Josefov - the Jewish Quarter of Prague, formerly a ghetto, it was mostly demolished between 1893 and 1913, with only 6 synagogues, the old cemetery and the Old Jewish Town Hall left
